Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Justify and apply planar radiographic techniques and protocols and justify modifications to optimise patient safety, image quality, radiation dose, and the demonstration of anatomy or pathology;
2. Perform simulated radiographic examinations of the chest, abdomen and appendicular skeleton safely and competently demonstrating patient care and communication;
3. Critically evaluate radiographic images using recognised criteria; and
4. Integrate and apply knowledge of normal anatomical structures and common pathological and traumatic conditions relevant to radiographic examinations of the chest, abdomen and appendicular skeleton.

Participation requirements
Attending and actively participating in the laboratories is compulsory for this unit. This is a hurdle requirement as the scheduled laboratories provide pre-clinical skill development required to meet the learning outcomes of this unit and achieve Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia accreditation standards. Failure to meet this requirement will result in a fail grade for this unit.
You are required to meet the attendance and participation requirements for laboratories to pass this Unit. Laboratory sessions involve the use of ionising radiation and are only run at the scheduled laboratory times each week. If unable to attend a laboratory session due to special circumstance, you must provide appropriate documentation to the unit convenor. Where it is possible to grant, an alternate laboratory session at a time specified by the unit convener must be attended to meet the learning objectives of the missed session. If an alternate session cannot be granted, an alternate activity will be provided that meets the learning outcomes of the missed session. Failure to satisfactorily complete an alternate laboratory session or activity, or failure to attend and participate in scheduled laboratories, will result in a fail in this unit.
In accordance with current professional accreditation requirements, to demonstrate you have met the learning objectives of this course you must attempt all elements of assessment to a reasonable standard.
Required IT skills
Students will be using the virtual radiography program, Projection VRTM as part of this unit. Instruction on how to access and use this program will be provided.
