Learning outcomes
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Explain the pathophysiological bases and evidence-based treatment for core, niche and emerging areas of contemporary clinical practice as an ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist;
2. Design and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions across a range of clinical conditions, accounting for sociocultural and individual factors;
3. Investigate and apply assessments, exercise prescription and programming for recovery or management of complex clinical conditions relevant to the scope of practice of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist;
4. Critique case-based treatment plans, considering priorities of comorbidity, associated medical, surgical and allied health treatments, referral and assessment information, individual context and scientific evidence;
5. Develop strategies to teach, coach and motivate clients for self-management of exercise and healthy lifestyle, using biopsychosocial framework, behaviour change, and evidence-based practice; and
6. Formulate sound clinical reasoning and decision making informed by evidence-based practice and client-centred care.

Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
麻豆社 students have to complete the annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).
麻豆社 uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.

Learner engagement
The timetable for this unit, including assessment due dates, has been developed in conjunction with the other core units in this semester for the Bachelor of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilition. The format of having one longer class once per week (instead of a workshop and a tutorial on different days) has been done based on feedback from previous student cohorts to maximise capacity to attend classes across fewer days each week.
Where available, workshops will be recorded to enable students who are sick/symptomatic or have a critical reason to miss specific classes, to access the information from discussions and learning activities covered that week.
Students are encouraged to contact and meet with the unit convenor to work through any questions, concerns or areas that they need to catch up on for this unit of study.
Participation requirements
Students are strongly encouraged to attend the on-campus workshops and tutorials each week to optimise success in completing the unit, and importantly to ensure an appropriate level of preparation leading into their clinical placements. Learning activities, discussions and information covered within the on campus workshops are assessable within the unit assessments, and are core components of learning for meeting the course accreditation requirements, which align to the Professional Standards for Accredited Exercise Physiologists.
It becomes assumed knowledge that placement supervisors and employers anticipate students have gained through the successful completion of this unit of study, and the full degree.
Required IT skills
Students will need to download Respondus Locked Browser to their computer/device to be able to complete Assessment 1: Quizzes.
Students will need to video record one of their assessment items (Clinical Handover) and submit this to Canvas either as a video file or shared file link (e.g. One Drive). Students must ensure that the audio quality is sufficient for the unit convenor to mark without additional resourcing or written transcript. Students must also ensure any video files or shared links are accessible for marking.
